PUMPKIN LIGHTS - Pumpkin Carving
Pumpkin Carving is so much fun, at Pumpkin Lights we will show you how!
Pumpkin Carving has become such a fun hobby, not only during Halloween season, but all year long.
There are intricate patterns and stencils for Holidays and Events all year long, and even patterns for Celebrities
and Political figures. Some designs are easy enough for children to use (with adult supervision and help of course).
Some Pumpkin Carving enthusiasts who have their own Original designs even compete in Pumpkin Carving Contests.
A matter of fact, Melons and Watermelons are even used for carving Summertime Stencils.
Here we have provided some basic Pumpkin Carving techniques.
First of all, do not cut a perfectly round top, because it will fall right in. Draw a six sided (Hexagon) lid
on top of the pumpkin and angle the All Purpose Saw towards the center of the Pumpkin, making a ledge
so the lid does not fall in. You may also carve an additional rectagular lip on the top to make it easier to grab
(in case the stem comes off) and so you know exactly which way the top goes on.
In Addition, a hole can be cut underneath the pumpkin (straight up so it sits flat), so that it may be placed right over
the
candle or battery operated light.
Use a scoop or large spoon to clean out the seeds and strings, and scrape the inner wall of the pumpkin
to no thicker than one inch.
This will make it much easier to carve and make it illuminate much better.
Now pick out the pattern you wish to use, and trim off the excess paper.
Tape the stencil to the cleanest and best shaped side of the pumpkin for the specific pattern.
Then, poke just the the tip of the Small Poker through the paper guide and outer layer of pumpkin skin
1/16" to 1/8" apart along the design lines. When all the lines have been transferred, you can remove the paper stencil.
Then Drill the holes all the way through the pumpkin with the larger poker, before carving.
Make note that the more intricate the design, the closer the holes should be.
Cut the design with the All Purpose or Detail Saw connecting the dots.
Use a straight back and forth motion making sure not to bend or twist the saw, because it can break.
It is also best carve from the center of the
design outward. Push cut pieces out from the inside and cut larger pieces into smaller pieces before removing them.
Make sure to drill a chimney vent hole on top where the heat is the strongest from your candle,
so that your pumpkin does not cook from the inside out.
Last but not least put your candle on a plate under the hole on the bottom of your carved pumpkin
and Voila.......There is your Beautiful illuminated Pumpkin Carving!
To keep your Pumpkin Carving lasting a bit longer you may pickle it in Pumpkin Dunk'N, you may coat all the cut edges with petroleum jelly to keep it from drying out, place your pumpkin carving in the refridgerator when it is not on display,
and if it does shrivel up, you may soak it in water overnight to restore some moisture to your pumpkin carving.
Well, now that you know how to do Pumpkin Carving, give it a try and Enjoy! Pumpkinlights.com has all the information you need about Pumpkin Carving!
