Halloween Safety is something that is very important and pumpkinlights.com would like to
share some of their useful Trick or Treating and Halloween safety tips with you.
Make sure your children understand and follow all of these Halloween safety rules
Costumes should be flame-retardant and of light or bright color.
If costumes are a dark color, put some glow in the dark tape along the back.
Costumes should not drag on the ground and shoes should fit comfortably.
Face paints should be used instead of masks.(Masks can obstruct vision and breathing, and therefore are not so safe.)
If masks must be worn, they should have large nose, mouth and eye openings. .
Children should carry only flexible knives, swords and props.
Children should trick or treat in familiar neighborhoods and only approach houses that are lit and decorated.
Children should Never enter a strangers home!
Children should have a specific time to return home.
Children should have a flashlight, a name tag with address & phone number, and a Cell phone if possible.
Children should be accompanied by an adult for friends.
(Never let a child trick or treat alone.)
Children should be told never to accept rides from strangers.
Children should stay on sidewalks and obey all traffic signals.
(If there is no sidewalk, tell them to walk on the left side of the road facing traffic.)
Children should not cut across yards and driveways.
Children should walk (not run).
Children should stay away from and not pet animals they don't know.
Children should not eat any treats until they are inspected by an adult at home.
Halloween Safety for Parents
Make sure children know and follow all halloween safety guidelines.
Only buy Halloween makeup labeled "Made with U.S. Approved Color Additives,
Laboratory Tested," "Meets Federal Standards for Cosmetics," or "Non-Toxic".
If a mask is worn, make sure it does not obstruct vision or breathing.
Make sure costumes and shoes are not tripping hazards.
Make sure reflective tape is worn, especially on darker costumes.
Make sure children are accompanied by an adult or friends.
Make sure children have a specific time to return home.
Give children an early meal before going out.
Check all treats for signs of tampering and throw away all loose and homemade treats.
Wash fruit and slice into small slices.
When in doubt about a treat, throw it out.
Halloweem Safety for Motorists
Be especially alert when driving on Halloween in residential areas.
Enter and exit alleys and driveways slowly and carefully.
Be on the look out for children in dark clothing.
Watch for children darting out between parked cars.
Watch for children walking on roadways, medians, and curbs.
The major dangers on Halloween night are from injuries from falls and and pedestrian/car crashes and
often the excitement of the night can cause children to forget to be careful.
Children, parents and other motorists need to use simple common sense
and be aware of these Halloween safety guidelines
to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable Halloween.
